A Good Friend

You are probably wondering who this handsome man is. I can proudly say that I am related to him, and have known him for 17 & 1/2 years. He is my grandpa, Glenden Allred. Annie recently did a post on the old farm, and I was thinking about how wonderful it was to grow up there. The thought occurred to me that we never would have grown up there, or would even be Canadians if it hadn't been for this man.
He was born on August 1, 1916 in a log cabin at Talmage, Utah. He had a twin sister name Glenda. He has had a very adventurous life. He served in World War II and the Vietnam war. He has traveled to places such as Saigon, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. I didn't know grandpa during that time of his life. I knew him as my grandpa who lived down the road, who loved animals, and who "lived for his girls". He made sure that my sisters and I knew that we were not only just as good as any boy, but that we were better! He would always tell us he would never trade his girls for boys. He spoiled us rotten! Weither it was his homemade bread with honey, or chocolate eggs (chocolate covered almonds), or even a pony, he always made sure that we had everything!
I can still remember listening for the sound of the three-wheeler coming up the drive way, and knowing that Grandpa was coming! We all loved to hear his stories, and to hear about his life as a child. Now that I'm older, and I have forgotten some of those stories I am so grateful that Grandpa had the foresight enough to write his history down!

He was a baker.
A sailor.

and many other things.....but formost he is our Grandpa, and friend! And we love him!
