I arrived in the Los Angeles airport on January 27 after a cancelled flight, a little bit of panic and some successful rebooking I made it to the big city in one piece! Today after a bit of job hunting, and oatmeal muffin baking (check out the post at allredgirls.blogspot.com ) Emily and I decided to go out on a hike. I first pictured Ridgecrest as a desert wasteland, but i quickly discovered that it's beautiful here! Of course it's a different beautiful compared to that of BC, but beautiful just the same.
We hiked to the top of the mountain behind me. Notice I am wearing a light jacket, and capris in January! Unheard of in Vanderhoof!
Ooo now notice I am wearing a T-shirt in January! This is my first cactus sighting in the "wild".
There are even flowers out in the desert!
This was an adorable cactus, it even looked friendly! It didn't appear to have any spikes or harmful pokey things....
.....but Emily quickly found out that those pokey things were hiding from sight...luckily they didn't hurt. 
What did I learn on this hike today? 1. Wearing summer apparel in January is awesome
2. Do not touch things that you know should hurt, even if they LOOK safe
